About the Product Expert Role
The Product Expert, PLM and ERP will help address a major challenge facing modern enterprises: different systems often contain different versions of the same product information.
A PLM system may contain information about how a product was designed. An ERP system may contain information about what was ordered or manufactured, while trade and logistics systems contain information about what was shipped and declared.
When these systems do not agree, businesses can experience compliance problems, incorrect classifications, supply-chain risks and delays.
Altana wants to address this problem through its Product Passport approach, creating a continuously maintained product identity that can connect information throughout the product lifecycle.
The Product Expert will help turn real-world enterprise systems experience into practical product solutions.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have several important responsibilities.
Reimagine the Product Data Lifecycle
The Product Expert will:
- Own the product vision for how Altana's Product Passports connect PLM, ERP and trade-compliance systems.
- Define how as-designed, as-sourced and as-built bills of materials should be reconciled.
- Design workflows that allow product changes to flow through commercial documents, classifications and regulatory filings.
- Help create a product-data model that reflects real-world manufacturing processes.
Connect Product Data With Global Trade
The role will also focus on connecting product information to trade processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Defining how structured product data moves from SKU definitions through commercial invoices, advance ship notices and customs entries.
- Identifying manual processes that can be automated or eliminated.
- Improving BOM-to-invoice reconciliation.
- Helping automate or improve HTS classification processes.
- Using customer evidence and data to determine which integrations provide the greatest compliance value.
Turn Enterprise Experience Into Product Requirements
The Product Expert will work closely with engineering teams to transform knowledge of PLM and ERP systems into product requirements.
This includes:
- Translating experience with PLM implementations and ERP configurations into product features.
- Defining how components, materials, suppliers and country-of-origin determinations should be represented.
- Serving as an internal authority on enterprise product data.
- Helping engineering teams understand how product information is created, maintained and consumed across the supply chain.
Work With AI
Altana also expects the successful candidate to be comfortable using modern AI tools.
The Product Expert may use AI to:
- Prototype workflows.
- Analyze information.
- Generate explanations.
- Test ideas with customers and engineers.
- Explore automation opportunities.
- Reconcile structured and unstructured product information.

The company is particularly interested in using AI to address problems such as extracting bill-of-materials information from documents, identifying discrepancies between designed and built products, recommending classifications and identifying potential origin risks.
Who Altana Is Looking For
This role is designed for someone who has hands-on experience with enterprise PLM and ERP systems rather than someone who has only worked with these platforms from a software-vendor perspective.

Applicants should understand the complete product-to-shipment data chain, including:
- SKUs.
- Bills of materials.
- Purchase orders.
- Commercial invoices.
- Advance ship notices.
- Customs entries.
- Supplier information.
- Country-of-origin determinations.
Candidates should also understand how data can become inconsistent as it moves between different enterprise systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Altana lists several preferred qualifications, including:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with PLM and/or ERP systems.

- Experience with data modelling.

Salary and Work Arrangement
The current published salary information places the compensation range at approximately $200,000–$255,000 per year.
The role can be fully remote, according to Altana's official job listing, or candidates can work from Altana's hubs in Brooklyn, New York or Washington, DC.
Because the role is closely connected to enterprise systems and global trade, applicants should carefully review the company's eligibility requirements before applying.

Why This Opportunity Is Interesting
One of the most distinctive aspects of this role is that Altana is looking for someone who understands the problems of enterprise systems from the inside.
Rather than simply maintaining existing ERP or PLM configurations, the successful candidate will help design a new way of connecting product information with global trade.
The position therefore sits at the intersection of enterprise technology, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, supply chains and international trade.
For an experienced PLM or ERP professional, this could provide an opportunity to use years of practical systems knowledge to influence a technology product with global applications.
