  The Human Rights Essay Award 2027 is now open to lawyers and other eligible law graduates worldwide who want to produce original academic research in international human rights law. Organized by the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University Washington College of Law (WCL) in Washington, D.C., the annual competition recognizes outstanding legal scholarship on a selected human rights topic. For the 2027 edition , the theme is “Democracy, Human Rights and Participation.” Applicants are invited to develop an original legal essay addressing an issue related to this theme from an international, regional, comparative, institutional or thematic perspective.
