Engineer at Soter Labs | Remote DeFi Smart Contract Engineering Job

Soter Labs is hiring an experienced Engineer to join its senior technical team supporting the Sky ecosystem, one of the major decentralized capital allocation systems in decentralized finance (DeFi).

This is a high-responsibility engineering opportunity for a professional with strong experience in Solidity, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) smart contracts, smart contract security, monitoring, and production blockchain systems.

The successful candidate will work directly on infrastructure and operations involving high-value decentralized financial systems, including smart contracts, vaults, governance-driven parameter changes, and Layer 2 deployments.

The position offers a base salary of $120,000–$200,000, with bonuses available in cash or SKY tokens.

About Soter Labs

Soter Labs provides end-to-end governance and risk operations for the Sky ecosystem.

The company operates as a small, senior team with a high degree of autonomy. Its work involves supporting decision-making, defining and executing operational processes, monitoring security, and managing risks across the ecosystem.

Because the team works closely with Sky Core and ecosystem partners, engineers can expect significant exposure to real-world DeFi infrastructure and high-value production systems.

This is not a conventional software engineering role focused only on writing application code. Engineers are expected to understand the risks associated with decentralized financial infrastructure and take responsibility for systems where technical mistakes can have significant financial consequences.

About the Engineer Role

The Engineer will help design, implement, and operate monitoring and risk-management systems across the Sky ecosystem.

One of the major challenges will be developing an approach for monitoring different types of smart contracts, including contracts deployed on Layer 2 networks.

The successful candidate will then implement the monitoring framework and work with risk teams to establish appropriate response procedures.

The role combines software engineering, smart contract security, infrastructure operations, and DeFi risk management.

Key Responsibilities

Develop Smart Contract Monitoring Systems

The engineer will research and propose a comprehensive approach for monitoring smart contracts across the ecosystem.

This includes considering different smart contract types and deployments across both Ethereum and Layer 2 environments.

The goal is to identify potential issues early and provide reliable monitoring that supports the security and stability of the ecosystem.

Implement the Monitoring Framework

After developing the monitoring approach, the engineer will be responsible for implementing it.

The candidate will work with risk teams to define processes for responding to alerts and potential incidents.

This means the role involves both technical implementation and operational planning.

Manage High-Value Vaults

The engineer will help deploy and monitor vaults that can hold hundreds of millions of dollars.

This is one of the most important aspects of the role because it requires exceptional attention to detail and a strong understanding of production smart contract systems.

Engineers must be comfortable operating infrastructure where an error could potentially have significant financial consequences.

Execute Governance-Driven Changes

The role also involves executing parameter changes resulting from governance decisions.

The successful candidate must understand how governance processes translate into technical changes and ensure that approved modifications are implemented accurately and safely.

Work on Additional Ecosystem Projects

Soter Labs expects engineers to take on new projects based on the needs of the Sky ecosystem and their individual expertise.

This means the position can evolve over time and may involve different technical and operational challenges.

The ideal candidate should therefore be adaptable and comfortable working independently.

Requirements

Soter Labs is looking for an experienced software engineer with substantial production experience in blockchain systems.

Software Engineering Experience

Candidates should have at least 5 years of software engineering experience.

Importantly, this should include real-world production experience involving EVM-based systems and smart contracts.

Solidity Expertise

Strong Solidity skills are required.

Candidates should be comfortable reading, writing, reviewing, and reasoning about production smart contracts.

EVM Security Knowledge

Applicants should have a deep understanding of important EVM security concepts and patterns.

These include:

  • Access control
  • Oracle mechanics
  • Upgradeability
  • Cross-chain messaging
  • Layer 2 architecture
  • Smart contract security

Understanding how these mechanisms can fail is particularly important because the role involves high-value financial infrastructure.

Production Ownership

The successful candidate must be comfortable taking responsibility for systems where mistakes can be expensive and potentially irreversible.

This requires:

  • Careful decision-making
  • Strong testing practices
  • Attention to detail
  • Risk awareness
  • Operational discipline
  • Proactive monitoring

Nice-to-Have Experience

Additional experience can strengthen an application.

Smart Contract Risk Analysis

Previous experience analyzing smart contract risk in high-stakes environments is highly valuable.

Candidates who have worked on security reviews, protocol risk assessments, DeFi monitoring, or financial smart contract infrastructure may have an advantage.

Layer 2 Experience

Experience with Layer 2 infrastructure is also desirable.

Relevant technologies include:

  • OP Stack
  • Arbitrum
  • Cross-chain bridges
  • Messaging systems
  • L2 security

Understanding how assets and messages move between blockchain environments can be particularly useful for the monitoring responsibilities of this role.

Technology Stack

The position involves a modern blockchain engineering stack.

Technologies include:

  • Solidity
  • Foundry
  • Hardhat
  • TypeScript
  • Tenderly
  • Safe multisig operations

Candidates should be prepared to work across smart contract development, testing, monitoring, and operational infrastructure.

Experience with both Foundry and Hardhat can be valuable for engineers working with different development and testing environments.

Compensation and Benefits

Soter Labs offers a competitive compensation package for experienced blockchain engineers.

The advertised base salary is:

$120,000 – $200,000

In addition to the base salary, bonuses may be paid in:

  • Cash
  • SKY tokens

The compensation structure provides an opportunity for experienced engineers to participate in the success of the ecosystem while receiving competitive financial compensation.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is particularly suitable for:

  • Senior Smart Contract Engineers
  • Solidity Engineers
  • Blockchain Engineers
  • DeFi Engineers
  • EVM Engineers
  • Smart Contract Security Engineers
  • Protocol Engineers
  • Web3 Infrastructure Engineers

Candidates should be comfortable working with high-value blockchain systems and taking significant ownership of production infrastructure.

This is likely not an ideal position for someone who is only beginning their Solidity journey. The requirement for five or more years of software engineering experience and production EVM/smart contract work indicates that Soter Labs is looking for an experienced professional.

How to Prepare Your Application

Applicants should tailor their CV toward smart contract engineering and production blockchain experience.

Highlight projects involving:

  • Solidity
  • EVM
  • Smart contract development
  • DeFi protocols
  • Smart contract security
  • Monitoring systems
  • Ethereum
  • Layer 2 networks
  • Cross-chain infrastructure
  • Governance systems
  • High-value financial applications

Where possible, provide measurable examples of your impact.

For example, explain the value of systems you managed, security improvements you introduced, protocols you supported, or infrastructure you helped scale.

Candidates should also emphasize situations where they were responsible for production systems and had to make careful technical decisions under significant risk.

Career Opportunity

Working with Soter Labs provides exposure to sophisticated DeFi infrastructure and governance operations.

Because the company operates as a small senior team, engineers can potentially have significant influence over technical decisions and ecosystem operations.

The role can also provide valuable experience for professionals looking to progress toward positions such as:

  • Staff Smart Contract Engineer
  • Protocol Engineer
  • Smart Contract Security Lead
  • DeFi Risk Engineer
  • Blockchain Security Engineer
  • Engineering Lead
  • DeFi Infrastructure Architect
